Lesbians and their 4 legged babies

Have you ever noticed that every single lesbian has at least 1 dog, but more often than not, we find ourselves with  a houseful of animals? I wonder ... are we crazy cat ladies? Are we trying to save the world with our love? Do we just have an overwhelming need to nurture? Even the butchiest of the butch fall victim to "isn't that cutest kitten in the world?" Yes,  I said Butch and Kitten in the same sentence, as the most masculine  woman I know is currently posting snapshots of her new kittens on facebook and probably twitter too!

It seems that most of the birkenstock wearing lesbians that I know are very active in animal rights, saving the world, and going green! I say this because my facebook wall is filled with ads to save this kitten or this puppy! To put an end to animal cruelty and to Ban Kill shelters!

As I'm sitting here reading my facebook wall this morning (or afternoon for most of you) it revealed that heterosexual women (at least the one's on my facebook) .... don't. I wonder... is there something else on their mind? Do the men in their lives suck up all of the compassion and nurturing they have? (It's just a thought), or is the thought of feeding, bathing and walking one more living thing to overwhelming for them? Is their lives more demanding of their time? or do they simply have better things to worry about?

Even I, and I don't consider myself an animal activist, have two 4 legged babies that I pour much of my love, compassion and life into. This is Brie, he's an Australian Shepperd that I rescued from the shelter 7 years ago, he has brought much love into life and I wouldn't know what to do without him. He's saved me from myself on more than one occasion and is a blessing in every aspect of the world. He teaches me to laugh at myself and to trust my instincts.

This is Bailey Sue, she's a miniature Schnauzer, who is our newest member of the family.  We saved and I do mean saved this little monster from a breeder who was overwhelmed. She's teaching us how to grow, to forgive, and love unconditionally and most importantly to have lots and lots and lots of patience!!

This is just an observation I've made and ladies I really want your opinion so please feel free to comment.

New York !! New York!!!

At the moment, I'm absolutely loving New York! A little behind the times these days, since the state has been a leader in the fight for civil rights long before Gay Rights has become so public, but even Johnny come lately is on the road to success! Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, is proposing a bill to ensure equal rights for the Gays!!! Fabulous!!! This would ensure equal rights to so many families. I'm ecstatic!! The Gay Rights movement has grown in leaps and bounds over the last few months. I never thought I'd see this in my lifetime. Now it's just the waiting game until the final vote!

Homosexuality and Religion in a Time of Crisis

My girlfriend, Millie, has been going through a very tough time as of lately and as a consequence so has our relationship.  In September of 2010 her brother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal cancer that subsequently spread through his body. After his long and fearless battle, he passed away in December of 2010.  Shortly thereafter, her mother was also diagnosed with Stage 3B Lung Cancer and is currently going through chemotherapy and radiation.  Living 800 miles away from them, it's been very hard to rely on daily phone calls and such to keep track of everything that is going on and to be able to help as we would want to.  Needless to say, this is scaring Millie half to death and it is painful to watch helplessly as the ones you love, fight for their lives.

Being helpless in a medical crisis isn't easy for me to deal with, I am a nurse.  This is what I do. I help to fix people, I help them feel better.  But truly it's a whole other story as you stand there with your heart in your throat and watch helplessly as someone you love struggles to hold his own body weight. Being supportive in a time of crisis isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, all you want to do is make it all go away, make it disappear and you can't.   You don't want to watch your partner's heart break into irreparable pieces.  You don't have the right words, the right actions, or even a clue as to what to do when your in this situation. It's a very lost feeling.

Millie is now trying to find comfort in God and in religion. She's trying to have faith when all seems lost. We are from South Louisiana and with that you should know that EVERYONE is Catholic in South Louisiana. So of course, we were both raised Roman Catholic.  But being homosexual and being catholic isn't exactly peas and carrots. We have been discussing different religions, different beliefs, sharing our thoughts with each other. I'm not sure if she's finding comfort in these conversations, but it is helping me to see that she is more open minded than I previously thought. For myself, I have become spiritual and reject most religions as cults. I refuse to follow anything that preaches hate for any reason. I have a mind and I can think for myself, God gave me that and I am thankful. I am not afraid of dying or the after life, I have no reason for fear.  I have a great relationship with God and we talk nightly. I take my communion from nature and the beautiful things God has created for me to enjoy and reveal in, instead of a church.  Millie, however, is a more structured individual in nature than I.  She needs and thrives on routine and praise.  So finding a religion or spiritual pathway will be a journey for both of us ... and one I look forward to.

Projected Perfection

 Projected Perfection

Staring off into space
thinking of a time before
before the insanity set in
before all the rules and regulations
before the sun set on us

A time when it was perfect
to just be me
before the judgement, before the accusations
before the disappointed look cascaded into your eyes

Back to a time when I was "bubbly"
That's what you said.... "bubbly"
And then shit happened
I disappeared..... you left
whether voluntary or involuntary
then end result is the same

Now I don't meet your approval
even though nothing has changed
Only now gravity has set in
weighing you down

Maybe it's you that's changed
Judgmental accusations dance in your head
You project them as fact
And I'm made to feel to your pain.

She is my Truth

She is My Truth

She touches my life
Like no other.
From the moment I met her
She has been my lover.
If this is a sin
Then I will gladly burn
Because without her
I'd have no concern.
No concern for this life
that God created.
No concern to breathe
It would be underrated.
She is not a choice
I lightly made.
She is my truth
from this facade.

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. - E. E. Cummings

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. - E. E. Cummings

I've been battling with this for a very long time.  Having the courage to grow up and become who I really am.  For a long time I just didn't want to rock the boat.  I've lived my life as quietly as I possibly could.  Being completely uncomfortable in  my own skin. I was unsure of what and who I was but more so was how to handle the outside world's opinion if they really knew.  I don't look like a queer, a lesbian, a homosexual, in fact, you would never be able to guess if you saw me on the street.  That comes with it's ups and downs, but  I have no wants to cut all my hair off and I just haven't found a dress that sports rainbow colors to my liking.  So in turn,  at 34, I get a lot of : Do you have a husband? Do you have kids? Why not? and when I simply answer "No?"  Here comes the awkward stare and the anxiety attack building up within me from anticipating how I should answer this and fear of how the other person will react, because the acquisition is far from over.
I've had all sorts of reactions come my way, none are predictable.  From my distant family telling me they love me "anyway"... all the way to someone walking away from me. One lady even had the nerve to tell me she would pray for me.  I'll never forget that day.  When that seemingly pleasant conversation at work turned so very wrong.  It was break time and I was getting a cup of coffee when this middle aged colored woman asked me if I was married and did I have children.  I could tell she was the go to church on Sunday type, it was likely that she sung in the choir and wore a huge hat to those services.  I swallowed hard and said, "No, I'm not married, and no I don't have children but maybe one day I will." I thought that was the best answer I could give in that situation, however the prodding into my personal life continued. "Do you have a boyfriend, A pretty girl like you should have a boyfriend?" blah blah blah... and the "man" speech continued from this stranger until I just quietly said "I'm gay."  The utter shock on this woman's face was priceless, but that in itself confused me, she was a colored lady and we were in South Louisiana... you would think she may know a thing or two about oppression and prejudices  and wouldn't have the heart to do it to someone else.... WRONG.... Here it came... the BIBLE thumping!!! In a room full of people, I stood there not knowing what to say as I've been slapped in the face with the bible yet one more time. Finally I just started walking away and as you would guess she followed me out of the break room with "I'll pray for your soul!" at the top of her voice and at that point... I couldn't help myself and the Bitchy Lipstick Lesbian appeared, took over my body and the quiet girl who wanted to avoid a scene was tired of it.... So I replied in a quiet even tone,  "You go ahead and pray for my soul, I would greatly appreciate that... and tonight when I'm laying in bed with my lover I'll be sure to pray for yours, you judgmental hypocrite.  I may not be able to recite the bible to you word for word but one thing I know is that God created us all unique and he loves each and every one of us and it's not your place to judge me or anyone else. Treat others as you would have done to you.  Do you remember that commandment? Judge not lest ye be judged! And for your information the Bible is NOT the only book you can learn from you know. You might want to try Martin Luther King Jr.'s autobiography!" You can imagine the look on her face as what I said registered in that tiny, misguided brain of hers. She stood there speechless which was an accomplishment in itself. But all I could think of is Did I just say that to the colored lady?
That was the first day I ever stood up for myself.  Since coming out of the proverbial closet, I've been met with shock, disapproval, being disowned by my parents. I've been called a child molester, and I still don't get the connection between Gay and Pedophile but the weak minded always seem to throw that in there. I've been made to feel threatened, insignificant, worthless, wrong, an abomination, a sinner, even like a total mistake, amongst other things. I'm not sure if it's worse to be made to feel that way from your family or from strangers.  They both have a huge impact on your self esteem and thought processes. Being Gay is something you live with with every breathe you take.  It infuriates me when people say It's a choice.  All I can think of ... is Really??? You think it's a choice... kinda like the choice I made to wear this shirt today.... You think anyone would make the choice to be gay in South Louisiana... you think living in fear of being Gay Bashed like so many of my friends, or being shot in a public mall for wearing rainbow colors on my T shirt is a choice that a sane person would make? How about being disowned my your entire family, (the people who made you and are suppose to love you) ? Those are some pretty great choices there. Well if it was that easy ... then hell: I'll take COMBO #3  White Picket Fence with 2.5 kids with a side of financial security and an extra large Coke!! and ohhh can  you add a Cocker Spaniel to that please! Thanks!!

A Real Lesbians View

June 13, 2011
Re: Lez Get Real & a girl in damascus

There have been reports that some men have nothing better to do with their time then to pose as Lesbians to discuss and give their opinions about the Lesbian lifestyle as, well, a Lesbian. This confuses me.  Is my life that much of a hot topic or a joke that these men feel they are entitled to pose as one of us.  Do they know what we’ve been through? Have they had the privilege of being ostracized by their families? by their friends? coworkers? by their country? Do they know what it’s like to NEVER be recognized as a REAL citizen or in some cases as a REAL person with REAL feelings?
On one hand, I’m glad to have the support for our cause. But on the other, I think that it would have made a much greater impact if they stood up as STRAIGHT MEN and said.. Hey I support you! But now... they have zero credibility and all that work and time has made the LGTBQ community look well...not so credible.  And this my friends, pisses me off a bit.
I don’t take having to fight for my rights to marry, to love, or to be recognized as an equal lightly.  I think it’s ridiculous in the first place that I have to sit here and wonder if my upcoming marriage is going to be legal in a year from now or not.  Not to mention, having to contact lawyers and such to make sure we are protected in the case of an emergency or death.  These things actually really make me angry. I pay my taxes, I contribute economically, socially, and in every other way that a heterosexual person does.  However, I have to face the wrath of the right winged Christian punks  who think they are so much better than me... and watch as they bully themselves and their religion into my politics and then get themselves arrested for masturbating in public, next to a playground no less!!!! or better yet!! Cheat on their wives with some internet tramp and twitter pictures of their less than adequate “junk”!! I bet their families are proud!!
So for those of you who think... awww it’s no big deal! He just posed as a Lesbian to get his work read. Think again. It’s NOT your life that he’s making a joke of.  And for future reference to all you NON LESBIAN writers... before posing as a lesbian and writing articles and blogs with a lesbian view point.. Please just write a fiction novel.  I would greatly appreciate it!                                                      ~Miss B
